Das Gebäude über dem gefürchteten Lauffener Neckarwirbel war bis zur Reformation abgabenfreier Sitz („Freihaus“) des Lauffener Predigers, eines studierten Theologen. 1491 erkannte dieser in seiner Dienstverpflichtungserklärung („Dienstrevers“) das Recht der Gemeinde an, in Kriegszeiten aus Vorhof und Garten des Hauses Büchsen abzufeuern. Die Nordwand des Gebäudes steht auf der alten Kirchhofbefestigung. Seit dem Neubau des Gebäudes Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts diente es als Wohnsitz des „Special“ (evangelischer Dekan), und trug daher lange Zeit den Namen „Specialat“.

Jusqu'à la Réforme, le bâtiment au-dessus du redoutable tourbillon du Neckar de Lauffen fut un siège exonéré de taxes (« Freihaus ») du prédicateur de Lauffen, un théologien érudit. En 1491, dans sa déclaration d'obligations de service (« Dienstrevers »), celui-ci reconnut le droit de la commune en temps de guerre de tirer du parvis et du jardin de la maison. Le mur nord du bâtiment se situe sur l'ancienne fortification du cimetière. Depuis la nouvelle construction du bâtiment à la fin du 17^e s., celui-ci servit de résidence au « Spécial » (le doyen de l'Église évangélique) et porta ainsi longtemps le nom de « Spécialat ».

The building over the widely feared Lauffen Swirl in the river Neckar was the tax-free seat of the Lauffen preacher – a studied Theologian – until the time of the Reformation. In his service declaration of 1491 he acknowledged the right of the community to fire weapons from the forecourt and garden of the Rectory in times of war. The north face of the building stands on the old churchyard battlements. Since the reconstruction of the building at the end of the 17th century it has been the residence of the „Special“ (Protestant Deacon) and therefore carried the name “Specialat”.
